Takashi Kobayashi, Geographic Compliance & Corporate - Legal Lead, Japan
Takashi Kobayashi is the Legal Lead for Japan Geographic Compliance & Corporate of Accenture. He oversees compliance, regulatory and corporate governance issues in Japan. In addition to traditional compliance issues such as anti-corruption, data privacy and competition, he now focuses on ethical issues in new technologies such as AI.
Prior to joining Accenture in 2017, he was a senior associate of Freshfields’ Tokyo office where he supported domestic and international clients in investigation, dispute and other compliance matters. He is a co-author of “Understanding to Global Arbitration” (Shoji-homu), “Understanding to Global Investigation” (Shoji-homu), “Legal and Risk Management for New Directors and Officers” (Shoji-homu) and others.

Yoshihiko Matake, Partner, Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu
Yoshihiko Matake focuses on corporate crisis management, international dispute resolution, consultation on corporate governance and compliance framework and export control. He has advised domestic and foreign clients in various corporate crisis cases including a high profile criminal trial regarding fraud in clinical research, large-scale data manipulation of product quality by manufacturers, international investigations on violation of environmental regulations, international cartel and foreign bribery and corruptions. He has a great deal of experience of US class actions and mass actions and other international dispute resolution. His practice covers a large variety of corporate matters including export control, international trading regulations, data privacy regulations and other cross border legal matters, in particular involving North America.
He has worked at Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu NY LLP as a senior associate from 2010 to 2013. He graduated with an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2010 and with an LL.B. from the University of Tokyo in 2003. He was admitted to the Japan Bar in 2004.
Christopher Gunson, Partner, AMERELLER
Christopher Gunson is a partner based in the Dubai office. He represents numerous multinational companies on all aspects of business in the Middle East region. This work includes commercial transactions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and regulatory compliance.
He is fluent in Japanese and much of his practice involves representing and advising Japanese businesses on matters in the Middle East region.
In addition to his corporate and commercial work, Chris conducts substantial work in the oil and gas sector, and he is a frequent author and commentator in news media concerning developments in the oil and gas sector in Abu Dhabi and Iraq.
Wise Wang, Senior Legal Counsel, ByteDance K.K.
Wise Wang is the Senior Legal Counsel responsible for TikTok Japan’s legal affairs. He joined TikTok Japan as the first in-house legal counsel and is currently the lead product counsel, covering various products of TikTok Japan.
Prior to joining TikTok Japan, Wise worked for IBM, Deloitte as a business management consultant, subsequently served as a legal counsel for IT companies across industries (Game, EC, Automobile, Entertainment, Payment services, and SaaS). As an in-house legal counsel at website analytics company, PLAID, Inc., he had played a substantial role in initiating its global IPO, Global Offering, which was an exceptional case in Japan-based SaaS industry. Combined with his diversified experiences in the business / legal fields and his multi-language (Japanese, Chinese, and English) skills, he provides unique and balanced legal services for one of the fastest-growing companies in the world.
Emi Takeda, Managing Director, Japan Legal Director, Accenture
Emi is a senior international lawyer with over 20 year experience at top global law firms and as head of legal for Accenture Japan. In her current role as Managing Director – Legal, and Board Member at Accenture Japan, she manages a team of more than 80 lawyers and contract professionals. Emi received her LL.B. from the University of Tokyo and graduated from the Legal Training and Research Institute of Japan. Emi received her LL.M. from Columbia Law School. Emi is a Japanese bengoshi admitted to practice in Japan and she is also admitted in New York.
Gaurav Dani – Senior Partner, INDUSLAW
Gaurav is one of the founding and senior partners of INDUSLAW. He is US (New York) and India qualified lawyer based in Firm’s New Delhi office. He specializes in private equity and venture capital financings, domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, demergers, strategic investments, joint ventures and corporate partnering transactions. He represents public and private companies, private equity funds and venture capital investors in the technology, media including digital media, telecommunications, real estate biotechnology, health care, renewable energy, consumer products and other industries. Most recently he has led some of the largest private equity investments in the e-commerce industry in India.
The Legal 500 Asia Pacific has over the last several years listed Gaurav as a recommended lawyer for Banking & Finance, Corporate and M&A and Capital Markets transactions.

Yasushi Murofushi, Senior Counsel, Legal Function Consulting and Legal Managed Services, EY Law Japan
Yasushi Murofushi is a Senior Counsel co-leading the Legal Function Consulting and Legal Managed Services at EY Law Japan. He has been practicing as a Japanese-qualified lawyer for thirty-seven years. Yasushi’s extensive experience encompasses a role as Japan General Counsel for Credit Suisse (2000-2017) and as a partner at a number of major international law firms for a total of fifteen years. He also served as the president of the Japan In-house Lawyers Association (JILA) (2012-2018).
Eri Maeda, Director, Legal Function Consulting and Legal Managed Services, EY Law Japan
Eri Maeda co-leads the Legal Function Consulting and Legal Managed Services business for EY Law Japan. She began her career at a major Japanese law firm in 2007 and transitioned to in-house legal counsel for Asahi Kasei, a major Japanese chemical manufacturer in 2011. She also spent time as in-house legal counsel for Johnson & Johnson and was the Lead Legal Counsel of EY Strategy & Consulting Co. She is a board member of JILA (2014-2016, 2018-present).
Saurav Kumar – Partner, INDUSLAW
Saurav is an equity partner with INDUSLAW with over 18 years of experience and specializes in mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, private equity investment, joint ventures and corporate governance. He has advised multinationals, Indian public and private companies, funds and consulting firms on structuring complex inbound, out-bound, domestic and cross-border transactions.
His work spans across several practice areas and sectors including technology, manufacturing, education, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and the consumer internet.
Saurav is currently involved in a number of transactions involving stressed assets. Saurav, co-heads the Japan desk at INDUSLAW and has been instrumental in developing the Japan practice. He publishes the Japan newsletter on a bi-monthly basis at IndusLaw to apprise his Japanese clients of recent legal developments in India. Saurav regularly speaks at seminars in Japan and has organised business legal seminars in collaboration with Embassy of India, in Tokyo, on several occasions.
Apart from Japan, Saurav has represented clients across multiple jurisdictions including the USA, the UK, France, the Middle East, Australia, Singapore and Korea.

Obata Shinobu, Senior Advisor, NEC Corporation
Joined NEC Corporation in 1985. Then, assigned to Legal and Administration Division (now Legal Division) and had been working at Legal Division. General Manager of Legal Division from April 2013 to March 2017. From April 2017 to March 2022, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer (now Chief Legal & Compliance Officer) and responsible for legal, compliance, internal audit and trade controls. In addition, from December 2018 to May 2022, Chairperson at the Association of Corporate Legal Departments. Currently, a Senior Advisor to the President at NEC.
Shinichi Yoshiya, Executive Director | Legal and Compliance, Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities Co., Ltd.
Shinichi Yoshiya is the Head of Regulatory Affairs for Japan and APAC in the Legal Division of Morgan Stanley. Mr. Yoshiya covers a broad range of complex cross-border financial regulatory matters and transactions for Morgan Stanley’s Japan and Asia Pacific region including including ESG (incl. sustainable finance and climate related matters), OTC derivatives regulations of Japan, U.S. and EU, the Volcker Rule, Resolution Stay, MiFID2, Brexit, LIBOR and Basel 3 Capital Rules. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Yoshiya was an attorney at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP advising on financial regulatory matters. Mr. Yoshiya has held academic appointments at Duke University Law School as Visiting Professor and currently teaches global financial regulations at Meiji University Law School.
Takayuki Kitajima, General Counsel - Japan, Business Integrity Officer -Japan, Unilever Japan Holdings K.K.
Kitaji has been with Unilever since 2006 and joined Japan Leadership Team in 2012. He has been appointed as Representative Director of Unilever Japan Holdings K.K. in 2012. He was previously in Johnson & Jonson Japan, as Legal director and before that as Deputy General Manager of Japanese trading company. He was in Germany (2 years) and London (4.5 years) for the overseas assignment by Japanese trading company. From 2003-2013, he had lecture of International Trade Legal Practices in Japanese university.
He is also steering committee member of Japan International Corporate Counsels Association and Japan Chief Legal Officer Association which are associations for in-house legal lawyers.
Binsy Susan, Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co
Ms. Binsy Susan is a partner in the firm’s dispute resolution/arbitration practice group. She has wide experience in handling complex corporate, commercial and IT litigations, and arbitrations. She regularly advises on matters relating to construction, engineering and infrastructure, real estate, information technology, telecommunications, oil and gas, energy, shareholder, and competition law disputes. Binsy has led and represented clients in several high-stake and complex international and domestic arbitrations. She also advises social media companies on data privacy and intermediary liability. As an arbitration and litigation specialist, she advises clients in arbitration-related court matters as well. She routinely appears before various Indian fora. Ms. Smarika Singh is a Partner in the Firm’s Dispute Resolution team. She works very closely on matters pertaining to litigation and commercial arbitration. Smarika has been part of Domestic & International Commercial Arbitrations and related litigation. She also regularly advises clients on contentious issues arising under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act and the Food Safety and Standards Act. Rudra has over 17 years’ experience in Corporate Commercial transactions, General Corporate advisory and advising on Corporate Governance matters. Rudra has been very actively involved in various national and international deals. His areas of expertise include corporate structuring, mergers & acquisitions, takeovers, delisting’s, private equity investments, joint ventures, real estate, banking and finance,project finance, establishment and management of funds (onshore and offshore).

From Japan headquarters in Tokyo, Takahisa is supporting on various projects and business not only in Japan but also across NPAC regions.
Prior to joining FedEx Express, Takahisa worked for Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he led negotiations on cross-border trade in services of various economic partnership agreements such as Japan-EU EPA and Reginal Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). He also provided professional support to ASEAN countries to construct the list of domestic regulations with Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry.
Takahisa is admitted to practice law in Japan and a graduate of Waseda University with the Bachelor of the law and University of Tokyo with the Juris Doctor degrees.
Akiko Kawaguchi, Assistant Division Director, Legal & General Affairs Division, Chiyoda Corporation
Akiko Kawaguchi is the Assistant Division Director, Legal & General Affairs Division at Chiyoda Corporation, on secondment from Mitsubishi Corporation since 2021. She began her career in 1999 as in-house legal counsel at Mitsubishi Corporation which included an assignment in Europe as the General Manager of the legal department. Akiko is also the chair of the Legal Operations Legal Tech Research Group at JILA, a member of the Japan Legal Operations Research Association, and a member of CLOC Japan Shared Interest Group.
Ayako Shotoku, Group General Counsel, Panasonic Holdings
Ayako Shotoku is the Group General Counsel at Panasonic Holdings. She has over thirty years of in-house legal counsel experience and began her career at Matsushita Electric Industrial in 1991 (which was renamed to Panasonic Corporation in 2008). Previously, she held roles in Panasonic’s group companies such as Automotive, Connected Solutions, and AVC Networks.
Mina Hoshizawa, Compliance Manager, Bayer Holding Ltd.
Mina Hoshizawa is Compliance Manager in Law, Patents & Compliance (LPC), Bayer in Japan. Together with her team members, she provides compliance advice to Pharmaceutical, Consumer Health and Crop Science Divisions. Before switching her role to compliance, she was Legal Manager for Crop Science Division in Bayer in Japan, supporting its leader and its daily operations. Mina is a qualified Japanese bengoshi (attorney). Before joining Bayer, she worked at Freshfields’ Tokyo office. She is the leader of a working group of Governance and Legal Committee of The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). Bayer LPC team is the winner of ALB Compliance and Risk Management In-House Team of the Year in 2020.
Kenji Tagaya, Executive Officer, General Counsel and Head of Legal Group, JERA
Kenji Tagaya is the Executive Officer, General Counsel and Head of Legal Group of JERA, one of the largest energy companies in Japan. Prior to JERA, he worked for a Japanese governmental financial institution (JBIC) and was involved in oil & gas and power project financing in Asia and the Middle East. He also spent time as Principal Counsel at an international financial institution (EBRD) in London and was involved in development financing in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He was awarded ALB Japan “In-house Lawyer of the Year” in 2017 and Chambers “GC Influencers” Japan in 2019.

Kai Draeger is Senior Counsel and manages one of the two legal teams of TDK Corporation's headquarter in Tokyo. He is admitted as attorney at law in Germany and oversees TDK's global legal operations in all areas of law with a strong focus on M&A, commercial, intellectual property, information law and data privacy. Educated and trained in Germany and the UK, Kai worked in an international law firm in Tokyo and Frankfurt from 2008 before he joined TDK Electronics AG in Germany in 2011. In 2018, he transferred to TDK's headquarter to reinforce the legal department and advise on global operations from Japan. Besides operative matters, his team focuses on the introduction of legal technology for contract drafting, review and execution.
Shuhei joined Oxford University Press (“OUP”) in October 2016 and has served in senior management with responsibilities including implementation of Corporate Compliance policies and anti-bribery, corruption, and counter-fraud programs such as Third Party Business Partner Due Diligence, Gift & Hospitality, Ethical Marketing, Charitable Donation, High Risk Business Activity, Conflict of Interests, Modern Slavery, Facilitation of Tax Evasion, Sanctions, and Anti-Money Laundering.
